45 Days and Counting!

You may be wondering why I haven’t posted here in a while, and there are four very wonderful reasons, which I will list below right…. now.

1
Kevin and I have been going to pre-marital counseling through our church. A lot of churches require it, but I don’t know of many of my friends who have gone through the process. Maybe because it’s not usually talked about as it is kind of a private matter. However, I’m just such a fan that I’d recommend it to all newly engaged or newly wed couples!

It’s been a fun and sometimes intense process where we sit down with a married couple and talk about everything: our personalities, how we communicate, how soon we want to start a family (hint: NOT soon), etc. It’s been awesome because it’s started a lot of amazing conversations, and we’ve grown even stronger as a couple.

Here’s a (kind of/not really) funny Q&A from our recent sessions:

Q: “Kevin, what made you fall in love with Kelly?”
A. (Kevin) “Um, I don’t know, her sarcasm?” (Yes, he phrased it as a question…) “Um, her family is really nice…” (Wow, thanks, babe!).

It’s been really easy to get caught up in everything else and then I have that moment where I say, “Wait, I have HOW many days until the wedding? Yikes, I should probably do something about that….” It’s hard to focus on wedding planning when you’re both still new to your jobs, have a house that needed a lot of work, and all the other craziness of being a broke twenty-something! I am blessed with a great support staff, so I’m not really concerned. At this point, my attitude is kind of - I’ve got the guy, the ring and the dress… So what else is there? (That’s a rhetorical question, please don’t try to rescue me from my little bubble!)

OUR HOUSE IS AWESOME!
Let me be more specific. I have been waiting to show you lovely readers photos of our house for months! I had an amazing opportunity pop up, and before I start on a completely off-topic but still awesome rant about blogging and how fantastic it is, I posted about our house and how I really wanted to take photos of the before and after process.

My AMAZING and extremely talented photographer friend (Christina of Christina Z Photography) reached out about this wacky idea, and we embarked on the most amazing experience of photographing Kevin and I in our new and very bare home. It’s going to be amazing to look back on it all and see how we dressed, what we looked like and how awesome our house was! What a great memory!

(That post is going up VERY soon, I’m going to include photos from the before and after so you can see not only Christina’s trademark talent, but also our journey of becoming homeowners!)

We have done A LOT of work.
(IF Kevin actually read this, he’d say, “We? Is there a mouse in your pocket?” and then joke about how little I’ve actually done. Well, I’m sorry that I don’t have a socket wrench set or extensive knowledge of plumbing and home repair - I mean, what is that, a drainpipe slip knot? Flo from Progressive! Anyone? Anyone? - but I DID pick out the paint colors, curtains, etc.

Kevin’s parents have been amazing, showing their love through their actions - cleaning, painting, and basically doing everything in their power to help get our house ready. My dad was of course helpful because unlike me, he’s gifted in pretty much every avenue of manly-man activities (Thanks for hooking up the ceiling fans so Kevin didn’t electrocute himself!) and of course my mom is a saint, constantly backing me up as I whine, complain and bounce off ideas. We are SO LUCKY to have the amazing parents we do! (Remember that as I hand you this card for our registry, I want the blue KitchenAid mixer. Thanks.) ;)

I’m kidding. I’d actually take any color. I’m not picky.

Speaking of my KitchenAid… registering for gifts is literally, single-handedly the FUNNEST thing we’ve done since the engagement. We both went into the process thinking it would be a quick 45 minute jam sesh where we tell them we don’t need fine china and that it would be super intense and weird. WRONG. It was AWESOME. Kevin was the superstar of the day, not kidding. We had the most amazing lady from Bed, Bath & Beyond help us out, and THREE HOURS later, we had successfully registered, and by we, I mean Kevin. He was having so much fun. I don’t even know half of the stuff he registered for… so opening presents will be a real treat!
“OH EM GEE, I absolutely adore these crystal encrusted salad tongs with matching towel warmer so I can feel like I’m at Lee Roy Selmons with the Queen! Do you have the gift receipt?”

(Actually, that sounds pretty awesome, so I now want that too.)

Kevin's obvious joy during the registering process. I think he misunderstood that registering just means you're giving people suggestions of what you'd like, but I'm beginning to realize he thinks we are automatically receiving all of these (somewhat ridiculous but totally awesome) items, LOL.

I’ve got to go back to sending out invites, planning the bridal shower, working at my awesome job as well as posting that blog about our house! Can’t wait for you to see! Thanks for reading, I adore each and every one of you!!

(Shout-out to my newest blogging bff, Carly! You can see her awesome and hysterical blog here… she’s great! Just dipping those little toesies into the blogging waters. I swear, it’s addicting! She’s the reason that motherhood doesn’t look like it’s completely awful… more funny stories please!!)

On a sappier note... Happy (belated) Valentines day! I was able to grab a quick v-day dinner with my sweet pea during a break from work!
